Sendik’s Food Market

The Balistreri family relocated to Milwaukee from Sant’Elia, Sicily, in 1926. They made their living selling fruits and vegetables from a horse-drawn wagon before opening markets on Oakland and Downer avenues.
Tom Balistreri, grandfather endearingly known as “Mr. B,” opened a third location in the center of Whitefish Bay on the corner of Silver Spring and Lake drives. Sendik’s “became known for honesty and integrity in treating customers and suppliers with courtesy and respect.”

Festival Foods

The first Festival Foods opened in Onalaska, Wisconsin, in 1991. Dave Skogen (former owner and CEO) received the Grocer of the Year award from the Wisconsin Grocers Association in 2005.
Mark Skogen, son of Dave, took over CEO operations in 2006 and received Grocer of the Year in 2014. Festival Foods declared they would add “two more locations in the Milwaukee area” in 2021.
